Become a Dyslexia Tutor

Change the Trajectory of a Child’s Life

Children with dyslexia are bright, capable, and often misunderstood.

With the right instruction, they thrive.

At the Indianapolis Children’s Dyslexia Center, we train tutors to deliver structured, multisensory literacy instruction using the Orton-Gillingham approach — the gold standard in teaching children with dyslexia to read, spell, and write.

If you want your work to matter deeply, this is that work.

FAQ

1 / How long is the program?

The practicum follows the school-year schedule with built-in breaks.

2 / Is prior teaching experience required?

No. A bachelor’s degree in any field is the only prerequisite.

3 / Is this voluenteer or paid?

Tutor training is unpaid. After completing Level 1 certification, tutors serve as volunteer dyslexia tutors at the Center.

Because our tutoring is provided at no cost to families, we rely on the continued service of our trained tutors to ensure children receive consistent, high-quality instruction throughout the school year.

While there is no contractual timeline, we ask tutors to commit to ongoing service so that students can experience the stability and continuity that structured literacy requires.

Paid part-time tutoring opportunities may become available after completion of Level 1 training, depending on Center needs and availability.
